Concerts: Please read all of the information below. All updated information regarding concerts will appear here. How to prepare your choir repertoire at home': Read the words through. Try to memorise them, so that when you see the first two words of each line you can say the rest without looking. Learn the melody of the first verse very well. Upcoming Performances: Mosman Park Sings - Mon. Dec. 5th Date: Monday, December 5th, 5.30 pm We have been invited to sing for an annual concert called Mosman Park Sings. This concert has usually featured Cottage Children's Choir along with the a number of other performing groups. In past years, we have sung with the children from the Mosman Park School for the Deaf 'Signing' Choir. The deaf children would "sing and sign" and our children 'sing". We are hopeful that they will be performing again this year. The concert is run by MosArts at the Camelot Theatre in Lochee Street, Mosman Park. It would be good for everyone to gather at 4 pm at Camelot Theatre, Lochee Street, Mosman Park, for a rehearsal. If you are travelling from far away, try to get there as soon as you can after 4. The concert will start at 5.30, and the children will sing in 2 different spaces - parents can choose which of the two venues to sit in. Once the children have performed, they can sit with their parents, or they can sit as a group on the floor in one of the two rooms - there, they can watch the other performers. The concert will be followed by a family picnic and carols, so bring food, drinks, a blanket, etc. (The bar will be open, so they cannot allow any b.y.o. alcohol, due to licencing restrictions) The concert will last less than an hour, and the carol singing should finish by about 7.15 p.m. There may be a $5 entry fee, as they are trying to raise money to buy a piano. Dress: White 'Cottage Children's Choir' top; black trousers, shorts, or skirt, black socks, no shoes. Map for Camelot Theatre, Lochee St., Mosman Park. Prepare as many of the carols in the top column on the left as possible, as well as the 3 carols listed for the Quarry performance. The children can sing the carols they know, and sit out for the ones they don't know. Lions Carols by Candlelight, Quarry Amphiteatre Date: Tues. Dec 20th & Wed. Dec. 21st This beautiful, family event consists of a sundowner carols concert with compere Chrissy Morrisy, The Silver Threads Brass Band, The Churchlands Choral Society, the Carmel Charlton Singers, City Beach PS Choir, and the Cottage Children's Choir. Our children will need to arrive at 5.45 pm. The concert starts at 6.30 pm, and goes until after dark. Tickets: Tickets will be made available to the choir in advance - as a fund-raising concert, the prices are quite reasonable at $12 per adult, and $6 per child. Tickets will be limited, so it will be important for parents to book through the choir in the coming weeks. Parents need to e mail us with their name, the child's name, if they would like Adult tickets ($12) or Children's tickets ($6 if under the age of 9), which night they would like tickets for (maximum of 2 tickets per family - not 2 tickets per night, but 2 in total - more tickets can be purchased outside Coles at the Floreat Forum on Dec 3rd, and at Birkdale Newsagency, 447 Cambridges Street, Floreat, but they recommend getting there early (cash sales only). Bring money to the class (cash in an envelope, clearly marked with your name, number of tickets, ticket type, and which night you are attending). Note that they only have 350 seats available each night, so we have been fortunate to be allowed to pre-book. Children under 3 are free - prams can't be taken into the venue, but can be parked at the gate that leads to the amphitheatre. Parents can still enter the venue to drop children off and to pick them up again even if they are not attending the concert. What to bring: The Quarry Amphiteatre is a BYO-licenced venue, so you can bring a picnic. There is a cafe which sells nibbles, ice cream and coffee (they don't sell hot food). As the amphiteatre is grassed in tiers, it is a good idea to bring cushions or picnic rugs, or low chairs with a low back. They are not allowed to have real candles, as it is set in the bush. There will be electric candles on sale for $2. BYO torch and mosquito spray. Concert Dress: White 'Cottage Children's Choir' top; black trousers, shorts, or skirt, black socks, no shoes. You can also wear a red Christmas accessory that looks nice, e.g. ribbon, bow, tie, cummerbund, bangle, necklace, antlers etc. Drop Off and Pick-up: Please arrive at 6.00 pm. The venue will open at 6 pm. The children can be brought down to the undercroft area behind the stage by parents (whether they are attending the concert or not) and can be collected from the undercroft area again at the interval, or at the end of the concert. Children who are performing will not need a ticket, as they will sit together near the stage, and/or moving to and from the undercroft area. Children under 3 years of age do not need a ticket either. The youngest children, and children with parents who are not attending the concert will be able to go home at half time, which is at 8.35 am (pick them up from the undercroft area); however, we would encourage as many of the older children as possible to stay to perform the final items. The concert is due to finish at 9.30 pm. Timetable: Quarry Carols by Candlelight 2011 6 .00 pm Children drop off at the undercroft 6.15 pm Warm up and rehearsal with the children 6.30 pm Children move to the stage area 6.45 pm Concert Begins 7.45 pm Cottage Children’s Choir perform 8.35 pm Interval 8.40 pm Children move to the undercroft area – parents can bring children home at this stage if it is easier (particularly for the younger children). We would encourage the older ones to stay for the end of the concert. Pick up from the undercroft. 9.10 pm Cottage Children’s Choir go back to the stage area 9.20 pm Cottage Children’s Choir sing for the final items 9.30 pm Children move to the undercroft area to be picked up by their parents Young Children: For the very young children (e.g. the 4 and 5 year-old children), we are happy for them to sing the three main items below, and then to go home after they perform these carols). I am sure the Lions club will be happy for parents to stand at the back until the Cottage Children's Choir set is over if they do not have tickets for that night. It would be nice for the older children to stay on for the whole night, as they will sing later with the other choirs - and, they will gain a full appreciation of the whole event. Please read the word of these three carols at home - they just need to be able to sing along with the older ones, so if they are familiar with the words they will be able to do that.
