'General' and 'Specialist' Music Teaching

These workshops for 'general' and/or 'specialist' music teachers look at a variety of ways of teaching music in a fun, exciting and challenging way. Specific skills areas covered include pitch, rhythm, memory skills, reading/writing, creativity and interpretation, composition, improvisation, inner hearing, part thinking, form, and stylistic awareness. Sessions explore ways of integrating these skill areas in a creative learning environment covering all levels from basic through to advanced. The use of the voice and movement are both seen as essential in the discovery, internalisation and learning processes. As a result much emphasis is placed on active and interactive learning. Back

Tertiary Aural Training

These workshops focus on aural training, creativity and related performance skills. Through a series of exploratory activities classes work on a range of skills such as pitch, rhythm, listening, memory, part thinking, creativity, interpretation, movement, improvisation, structure/form, inner hearing, choral singing, sight reading, writing/dictation, and harmonic hearing. The classes also investigate the links between communication and performance and investigating the role of the individual as an independant decision maker within the ensemble context. Material covered ranges from quite basic through to advanced. The use of the voice and movement are both seen as desirable in the discovery, internalisation and learning processes. As such an emphasis is placed on active and interactive learning. Use of instruments in the process is also regarded as important, with regular connections being made between singing and instrumental playing. Back

Community Choir Training

These singing workshops are suited to Community Music organisations such as adult choirs and informal singing groups. Sessions concentrate on a range of aspects of singing including warm ups, choral ensemble skills, aural and listening skills, rote learning skills, memory development, aural/visual reactions and interaction, movement, stage management, performance focus, creative expression and communication, and innovative rehearsal techniques. These sessions will include stimulating vocal music from different parts of the world including Africa. Back
